Worlds 2011 are taking place!
The World Hardcourt Bikepolo Championships 2011 in Seattle started yesterday with a wildcard tourney, for all who didn’t get a spot in the qualifications. The results are posted here.
We keep our fingers crossed for all our friends who are competing for the crown! A Munich team is also representing, Royal Flush with Eddy, Rik and Justin. Good luck guys!
What would you LIKE to see at WHBPC 2011?
That’s the question the Seattle guys ask at leagueofbikepolo.com:
“We are already having planning meetings for Worlds. We have some great ideas, but our “dream” tournament might not be yours. Please tell us what you would like to see at Worlds. I can’t promise we will actually do any of it, but I’m curious.
So far on the wish list I have heard (not all of this is practical):
-Portland, Olympia, and E.Van throwing tournaments around that week for Euros to get to visit all of Cascadia
-8 courts spoking out from a central spectator platform
-Group cheap housing
-Ref training school prior to Worlds
-Ladies Army tournament with Euro girls
-Tournament on a Ferry boat
-Advertising Video short
-Epic sponsorships
-Free Beer
… what do you want to add?”
So, if you like to see your ideas implemented, ideas you’ve ever wanted to tell, just grasp at this opportunity! The ideas other players already had are eg.
uniform court surfaces and sizes, playable walls, lights
Newcomer event or prizes
electronic scoreboards with timers and buzzers
pre worlds tourney for wildcard entrants
enough places for Australia, Asia and South America
courts for pick-ups
guaranteed entry
central bike parking for polo bikes with a couple of mechanics manning it
Swiss Rounds
tournament on a ferry boat or an airplane carrier
myself at WHBPC
360 tapouts
8 day tournament with at least 7 games per team each day
masseurs, live web video streaming
There are heated discussion about the reffing, ref training and consistency (only North American refs???) and about the number of spots (only 32 teams???).
